This composition is a small copy of a famous sculptor «Three Graces» of Antonio Canova.
Antonio Canova is an Italian sculptor, the brightest representative of classicism in European sculpture.
The achievement of Canova is that he tried to return a plasticity to the antic form and principles of art. He was perfectly making the figures of young ladies,
to whom he always gave a sensual shade and coquettish grace.
In Greek mythology, Grace is a is one of three or more minor goddesses of charm, beauty, nature, human creativity, and fertility, together known as the Charites or Graces.
The three goddesses are shown nude, huddled close together in embrace, their heads almost touching in what many have referred to as an ‘erotically charged’ piece.
They stand, leaning slightly inward – perhaps discussing a common issue, or simply enjoying being close to one another.
Their hair-styles are all similar, with the hair braided and held on top of their heads in a knot.
This gorgeous composition represents a pleasant mood, wisdom and generosity.
The small cope of Three Graces was made from highly qualitative Carrara marble which was transported directly from Italy for this sculpture.
The Carrara marble is one of the precious sorts of marble in the whole word. Lots of famous sculptors (Niccolo Pisano, Giovanni Pisano, Michelangelo) were working with this kind of marble.
